Dr. Macie P. Smith embodies HBCU pride, with her roots deeply planted in South Carolina State University. There, she earned her bachelor’s in social work and a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling, setting the foundation for a remarkable career that would see her breaking barriers and setting standards. Her academic journey didn’t stop there; she furthered her education by obtaining a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Smith’s commitment to lifelong learning is matched only by her dedication to service, as she holds the title of Licensed Gerontology Social Worker and has been recognized as an award-winning Alzheimer’s and Dementia educator and author.
In her professional capacity, Dr. Smith extends her expertise to support those living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, cognitive impairment, intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Her role as a Guardian as Litem and Court Appointed Guardian for the Richland County Probate Court underscores her commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable populations she serves. In March 2021, Dr. Smith’s leadership and vision were further acknowledged when she was elected to the Board of Trustees at South Carolina State University, where she now serves as the Vice Chairperson, a testament to her unyielding dedication to her alma mater.
Dr. Smith is the driving force behind Diversified Training Consultants Group, a Geriatric Care Management organization. She is also the author of A Dementia Caregiver’s Guide to Care, providing invaluable resources for caregivers navigating the challenges of dementia care. Dr. Smith continues to advocate for caregiving support as an advisory board member for Leeza’s Care Connection, founded by Celebrity Journalist and Caregiver Advocate Leeza Gibbons. Additionally, her role as co-host of the talk show “Dementia Divas: Caregiving & The Arts” alongside Teepa Snow on Saltbox TV showcases her commitment to raising awareness and fostering conversations around dementia care.
